  • Volition Developer Dreams Of A Future Without Used Games

With rumors bouncing around that the next Xbox may not run used games, the debate over whether or not used games should exist has been hotter than ever. It should surprise no one that many game developers are on the side of getting rid of used games, and now one from Volition has taken some time to explain why.

In a post on AltDevBlog, Volition's Jameson Durall starts by explaining his core problem with used game sales:

"Most Game Developers will agree that the Used Games market is significantly impacting the revenue we receive. I think what most consumers don’t realize is that every time they buy a used game, there is ZERO money making it back to the Game Developers. All of those profits are going directly to the re-seller and making it more and more difficult for us to continue making higher quality products."

Durall goes on to explain that developers have tried using both DLC and online pass codes to help win back some of the funds, but he believes those steps are "just a band-aid on a large wound."

Durall addresses rumors that digital downloads will cost less on the PlayStation Vita and that the next-gen Xbox will not allow used games to work, both solutions he sees as positive. Durall says he is okay with game rentals and lending games to friends, and those issues would need to be fixed, but he offers solutions such as transferring your license for...

  • Madden Super Bowl Simulation Is Pretty Good

Are you someone who likes to bet on the big game? Then you might want to sim your next Super Bowl in Madden.

EA Sports said last week the New York Giants would win Super Bowl XLVI and that quarterback Eli Manning would win the playoff MVP award, and that's just what happened yesterday night.

This marks the seventh time in the nine Super Bowl attempts that the Madden simulator predicted correctly since EA started doing so in 2004. The two times Madden was wrong in picking the winner was last year taking the Steelers over the Packers and in 2008 with the Patriots over the Giants.

Below are some player stats from the most recent Super Bowl simulation provided by EA:

    Final Score:

    - Actual score: Giants 21, Patriots 17

     - Sim score: Giants 27, Patriots 24

    Eli Manning:

    - Actual: 30/40 for 296 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT (MVP)

    - Sim: 25/39 for 342 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT (MVP)

    Tom Brady:

    - Actual: 27/41 for 276 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT

    - Sim: 28/42 for 327 yards, 3 TD, 1 INT

    Ahmad Bradshaw:

    - Actual: 17 for 72 yards, 1 TD

    - Sim: 21 for 82 yards, 1 TD

    BenJarvus Green-Ellis:

    - Actual: 10 for 44 yards, 0 TD

    - Sim: 13 for 41 yards, 0 TD

    Lawrence Tynes:

    - Actual: 2/2

    - Sim: 2/2

    Stephen Gostkowski:

    - Sim: 1/1

Below is a comparison between the actual scores from the Super Bowl games where EA Sports picked the correct winner:
